Position Summary

The Wildfire Housing Counselor provides housing-related services to individuals and families impacted by wildfires. This role supports clients in navigating housing challenges such as disaster recovery, homeownership, financial readiness, and planning and facilitating educational workshops and courses. The counselor will work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure clients receive comprehensive, trauma- informed support. In addition to direct client services, this position includes community outreach to promote available programs and build relationships with local organizations, real estate professionals, and service providers

Position Requirements

  • Conduct one-on-one and group sessions with clients to assess housing needs and provide guidance.
  • Assist wildfire survivors in understanding and navigating housing options, including homeownership and recovery programs.
  • Review financial documents and help clients develop budgets, credit improvement plans, and housing goals.
  • Maintain accurate client records and ensure timely data entry in compliance with funding and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate referrals to internal programs and external community resources.
  • Represent the organization at workshops, classes, and community events, including planning and facilitating educational sessions for clients and partners. This role may occasionally require weekend work depending on program needs.
  • Conduct outreach to community organizations, real estate professionals, and lenders to promote housing services.
  • Assist with the development of educational materials and program resources.
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments when necessary and in a timely manner, leaving room for walk-ins to assist clients in emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with program supervisors to meet compliance and reporting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Belief in ACCESS’ mission to provide food, warmth, and shelter.
  • At least 2 years of experience in direct client services, housing counseling, or related fields.
  • Ability to obtain HUD Housing Counselor Certification within 6–9 months of hire.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations in a respectful and culturally responsive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with customers and co-workers, sustain participant and interdepartmental confidentiality.
  • A valid Oregon driver’s license with a record that is acceptable under ACCESS’ insurance policies.

Preferred Position Requirements

  • Bilingual in English & Spanish
  • Experience working with disaster recovery or trauma-informed services.

Salary : $23 - $30
