Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented PM Yard Jockey / Night Switcher to join our logistics team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for efficiently managing the movement and positioning of trailers and freight within the yard during night shifts. Your expertise in transportation operations, team collaboration, and internal communication will ensure smooth yard flow, compliance with DOT regulations, and timely freight handling. Duties
- Move trailers, ocean containers, and chassis between yard locations and warehouse dock doors.
- Stage inbound and outbound trailers according to operational priorities.
- Perform trailer spotting for warehouse loading and unloading activities.
- Organize the yard to maximize efficiency and minimize congestion.
- Ensure trailers are properly secured when parked.
- Maintain accurate trailer and container locations throughout the shift.
- Assist with repositioning equipment to support overnight operations.
- Assist with warehouse operations when not making moves in the yard.
- Coordinate closely with warehouse supervisors and dispatch personnel regarding trailer priorities.
- Verify trailer, chassis, and container numbers before movement.
- Assist drivers entering or leaving the facility as needed.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the yard.
- Perform basic warehouse support duties during slower periods if required.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in road transportation operations, fleet management, or logistics coordination
- Familiar with the handling of ocean containers
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of DOT regulations related to vehicle operation, hours of service, and safety compliance
- Ability to analyze operational data to improve yard efficiency and troubleshoot issues effectively
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in logistics or transportation management are a plus
- Frequently enter and exit yard tractor throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Valid Driver's License
- CDL Preferred
