The Role

The Math Tutor provides personalized instruction to students in grades 8–12, supporting the development and reinforcement of strong mathematical skills including algebra, geometry, and problem-solving. This role works closely with the Academy Director and instructional team to tailor lessons to individual learning styles, monitor progress, and foster academic growth in a supportive environment.

This is a temporary position funded through Title I funds. Employment is contingent upon a yearly categorical allocation and this funding is currently expected to run through July 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess student mathematical proficiency to identify gaps in foundational skills.
  • Conduct one-on-one and/or small group tutoring sessions.
  • Utilize existing instructional materials and techniques to enhance comprehension.
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

Education: Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field.

Certification: Florida educator’s license with a secondary Mathematics endorsement preferred.

Background Check: Demonstration of a clear state and federal criminal history.

Skills: Communication & interpersonal skills, collaboration, flexibility, organizational planning, and technological aptitude.

Passion: A commitment to supporting student success through personalized, targeted instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in non-traditional or at-risk youth settings
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
  • Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and alternative education models
  • Experience with competency-based learning, instructional coaching, or project-based education
  • Strong comfort with educational technology tools and platforms
