Available Shifts: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Weekend Day shifts

Compensation: $22-30 per hour, determined by shift and individual experience

Role Summary

We are looking for a dedicated Locomotive Tester Technician to join our manufacturing facility in Muncie, IN. You will be instrumental in verifying that all locomotives meet rigorous electrical and mechanical standards prior to customer delivery by evaluating, measuring, and inspecting various systems.

Shift Schedules:

• 1st shift: Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 4:30pm
• 2nd shift: Monday through Friday, 2:30pm to 11:00pm
• 3rd shift: Sunday through Thursday, 9:30pm to 6:00am
• Weekend Day shift: Friday to Sunday, 6:00am to 6:00pm (36 hours worked for 40 hours pay; requires perfect attendance. Includes 6-8 weeks of initial 1st shift training.)
• Overtime availability during Friday-Sunday periods

Core Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive testing on mechanical, electrical, and electronic locomotive components, such as diesel engines and air braking systems.
• Identify, analyze, and rectify electrical or mechanical malfunctions to ensure optimal performance.
• Execute track-based locomotive testing while strictly following all operational safety guidelines.
• Help maintain accurate production records and precise instrumentation setups by following detailed technical instructions.
• Operate heavy machinery including locomotives, forklifts, overhead cranes, and tuggers.
• Utilize technical schematics and precision gauges to ensure high-quality output.

Advanced Duties:

• Lead technical troubleshooting initiatives to resolve complex equipment issues.
• Coordinate daily tasks to help the team meet production deadlines safely.
• Partner with production and quality departments to communicate critical findings.

Qualifications

Required Background:

• Skill Level I: Entry-level up to 2 years of experience or an electrical/mechanical engineering degree.
• Skill Level II: 2 years of relevant industry experience or advanced technical proficiency.
• Demonstrated ability to repair and troubleshoot pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Strong aptitude for interpreting flowcharts and technical schematics.
• Effective communication skills to help document and resolve non-conformance issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with advanced test tools and high-voltage systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general Windows computer navigation.
• Previous background in locomotive testing or a related industrial field.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Strength: Ability to lift 50 lbs and navigate confined work areas.
• Motion: Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, and stair climbing.
• Environment: Working in indoor/outdoor settings with exposure to oils, vibrations, noise, and temperature fluctuations.
• Safety: Strict adherence to blue-flag policies and proper PPE usage to maintain a safe working environment for the entire team.
