About The Role
Unispace is looking for a commercially driven Legal Counsel to join our New York team. This isn't a traditional "behind-the-desk" legal position; you will be deeply embedded within our business, working side-by-side with project delivery and commercial teams.
As a key advisor, you will provide practical legal guidance to senior leadership and help manage the legal and commercial risks that come with delivering world-class workplace environments across the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Leadership: Draft, review, and lead negotiations for a diverse range of commercial agreements and project-specific contracts.
Strategic Advisory: Serve as a subject matter expert across construction, real estate, and general commercial matters.
Risk Management: Provide proactive advice to internal stakeholders on contractual risk, liability, and the management of potential disputes.
Operational Excellence: Partner with leadership to improve internal legal processes and refine our contract templates for maximum efficiency.
Project Support: Support the business in executing complex projects by ensuring contracts are effectively structured and managed.
What You’ll Bring
Experience: 3–5 years of post-qualified experience (PQE) gained within a law firm or an in-house legal department.
Industry Knowledge: Specific experience navigating construction or complex commercial contracts.
Credentials: Admission to the New York Bar (or eligibility for admission).
Skills: Expert-level drafting and negotiation skills combined with a practical, "business-first" mindset.
Collaboration: The ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

- Proven ability to independently manage contracts end-to-end
- AIA contracts
- Design & Build frameworks
- Subcontractor agreements
- Comfortable in a high-volume, fast-paced RFP environment
- Ability to work autonomously in a standalone role
- Experience in both private practice and in-house
- Knowledge of New York contractor licensing requirements
- Exposure to construction insurance
- Experience in risk management frameworks
