About the Opportunity
Acara Healthcare is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and operationally focused Controller to lead the accounting function and financial reporting operations across the organization. This mid-to-senior level leadership role is responsible for overseeing all accounting activities, ensuring regulatory compliance within the healthcare environment, strengthening internal controls, and leading a high-performing accounting team.
The Controller will serve as a key business partner to executive leadership, providing financial insight, improving processes, and supporting sustainable growth within a multi-entity healthcare organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership & Oversight: Lead all accounting operations (GL, AP, AR, Payroll, Cash Flow & Treasury Management) and manage the full monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Prepare and review financial statements and develop strong internal controls and financial policies.
- Compliance & Audit: Ensure adherence to GAAP and healthcare regulations (Medicaid/Medicare); lead all financial and regulatory audits.
- Strategic Growth: Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; provide financial insights for acquisitions and expansions.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Process Optimization: Strengthen internal controls and optimize ERP systems (NetSuite) and revenue cycle workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance and CPA required.
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience including 3 years in leadership role
- Healthcare experience required (Home Health, Hospice, or similar); deep understanding of Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP (ASC 606/842), accounting software and ERP (NetSuite preferred); advanced Excel proficiency; Power BI experience a plus.
- Experience with multi-entity operations or Private Equity-backed companies preferred.
