Dog Kennel Tech (Part-Time)
Reports To: Canine Care Manager
About the Job
Acadiana Animal Aid is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and hardworking Canine Kennel Technician to join our team. This position plays a vital role in providing daily care, enrichment, and support for dogs in our shelter while helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
The ideal candidate is passionate about animal welfare, comfortable working with dogs of all sizes and temperaments, and thrives in a fast-paced team environment.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with a rotating schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Our shelter operates 365 days a year, and team members should be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily exercise and enrichment for dogs through walks, playtime, and other activities
- Prepare and distribute meals while monitoring appetite and overall well-being
- Observe and document changes in health, behavior, or activity levels
- Clean and sanitize kennels, crates, dishes, and animal care areas according to shelter protocols
- Assist with bathing, grooming, and basic animal care tasks
- Administer medications as directed
- Support training and behavior modification plans
- Ensure dogs have appropriate bedding, enrichment, and daily care
- Maintain clean and safe indoor and outdoor animal spaces, including play yards
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to promote animal welfare
- Provide guidance to volunteers to ensure safe animal handling practices
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and disease-prevention procedures
- Communicate effectively with team members regarding animal care needs
- Help create a positive experience for visitors, adopters, volunteers, and fellow staff members

- Passion for animal welfare and commitment to providing excellent care
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple responsibilities
- Comfortable handling dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Dependable, responsible, and detail-oriented
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and cleaning for extended periods
Benefits
Employees working 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for paid time off, including vacation and sick leave. PTO begins accruing upon hire and becomes available after the applicable waiting period.
