Position Summary
The Technology Specialist is responsible for supporting the technology systems at Academy Prep. As the first line of IT support for teachers, students, and staff, this position focuses on help desk level support, while occasionally assisting the Director of Technology with maintenance of critical network components, systems, infrastructure, and applications. They also work in concert with the Director of Technology, Educational Technology Coordinator, and school administrators to ensure that classroom technology enhances the overall educational program, and that faculty and staff receive the training they need to effectively use technology resources.

This is a full-time, 12 month, non-teaching position, based at Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg, and may on rare occasions require travel to other Academy Prep locations in Tampa and Lakeland. Working hours are 7:00am - 4:00pm Monday through Friday. A small number of events occur in the evenings, or on the weekend throughout the year where technical support is required. Employees are notified well in advance if they are expected to work those events.
Specific Job Duties
- Manage Chromebooks, Macbooks, Windows PCs, iPads, projectors, interactive boards, printers, phones, and other classroom technology resources.
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and thoroughly document common hardware and software issues.
- Perform hardware repairs on student Chromebook devices as needed.
- Serve as site point-of-contact for addressing hardware and software issues.
- Deliver faculty and staff technology training as needed.
- Work with other members of the technology team to create training and presentation materials including videos, slides, guides, and knowledge base articles.
- Manage the internal Student Information System (SIS) database and Google Workspace for Education.
- Create user accounts, manage access rights, group membership, and shared drive access permissions.
- Assist campus personnel with SIS database tasks, class roster creation, LMS management tasks, and admissions software.
- Provide support for school events, including virtual events (recruitment open houses, parent teacher conferences, etc).
- Advise on the technology planning process that will regularly evaluate existing technology, research new solutions and technologies, and recommend changes.
- Advise on the technology budget, purchase supplies, track receipts and prepare expense reports.
- Other duties as assigned by school administration.
Technical Skills and Experience
- At least 1 year of technical support experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of macOS, iOS, Windows, and ChromeOS.
- Experience troubleshooting or repairing personal computers, laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace apps and Microsoft Office
- Experience working with Student Information Systems and Learning Management Systems.
- Experience managing devices with a mobile device management system (MDM).
- Some familiarity with network troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures, network protocols (DNS, TCP/IP and DHCP), and network hardware components (switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points) is a plus.
- K-12 teaching, teacher training, or instructional design experience, especially in STEM, computer science, robotics, or other technology courses is a plus.
Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
