Elementary School Social Worker

The Academy for Integrated Arts (AFIA) is an innovative, arts integrated school. Our school community is reflective, dedicated and caring. The unique vision of AFIA embraces arts instruction integrated into the core curriculum as a meaningful part of what students do every day. Additionally, instruction is from a strong constructivist viewpoint and is delivered with developmentally appropriate practices. AFIA is seeking a social worker who can begin immediately, but will also consider applicants for the 2026-2027 school year.

Position Overview

The Social Worker supports students’ academic achievement, social-emotional development, attendance, and behavioral success through assessment, intervention, consultation, and coordination of school and community resources.


This position serves as a member of the school’s student support team and works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, families, and community partners to remove barriers to learning and promote equitable access to educational opportunity. coordinates appropriate community resources for students. The role of the school social worker is varied and may include other duties as assigned.  


Student Support

  • Monitor student attendance and provide interventions to reduce absenteeism
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators and the student support team to provide support to students focused on social-emotional learning, self-regulation, and conflict resolution
  • Provide crisis response and risk assessment as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines
  • Responds to crisis situations in schools
  • Coordinates and facilitates appropriate community services to students
  • Use data to create and evaluate student interventions


Family Engagement

  • Partner with families to identify barriers to student success and connect them to relevant resources
  • Serve as liaison between school, home, and community agencies.
    Connect families to appropriate community resources and supports.
  • Facilitate family meetings and serve as a liaison between home and school
  • Provide workshops or resources to support families in strengthening social-emotional development at home


McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison

  • Ensure compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act by identifying and supporting students experiencing homelessness, coordinating services, removing barriers to enrollment and attendance, and collaborating with families and community agencies


Foster Care Point of Contact

  • Work in alignment with the Every Student Succeeds Act to promote educational stability, and partner with child welfare agencies to support students in foster care


School Food Pantry Coordinator

  • Oversee school-based food assistance efforts, organizing donations, maintaining inventory, and collaborating with community partners to address food insecurity and ensure students and families have access to essential resources

Systems & School Culture

  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to implement trauma-informed and restorative practices
  • Help build and support systems that promote belonging, safety, and student voice
  • Use data to identify trends and inform proactive supports
  • Contribute to schoolwide SEL programming aligned to our arts-integrated model
  • Creation of and participation in professional development activities


Qualifications


Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work 

Preferred:

  • Experience in a public school setting (charter or district)
  • Licensed Master Social Worker
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children
  • Experience facilitating small groups
  • Training in trauma-informed care and restorative practices
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity


Salary:  Commensurate with experience
