What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Teacher position at Academica Nevada?
Position Summary
Teachers are the most important daily leaders and shapers of intellectual and ethical culture on our campus. Every teacher is a role model and must always act and speak as one.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create a classroom environment that will feel safe for all students to learn and reach their fullest potential.
- Create thoughtful and well-planned lessons while adhering to the curriculum.
- Maintain orderly classroom.
- Provide timely and meaningful evaluation/correction of student work.
- Engage students utilizing the Socratic method.
- Lead students through intelligence, charisma, humor, moral integrity, and example.
- He/she must fully embrace the school's vision of community, of learning, and of leadership.
- Perform additional assigned duties.
- Reads, knows, and supports the philosophy, policies, procedures, and other pertinent data of the school as published in the Faculty Handbook and most current Family Handbook.
- Follow school policies and procedures, including the Academy Crisis Plan, to ensure the safety and security of the students on campus.
- Provides reasonable assistance to those students in need of individual help and assists students to make up work after approved absences.
- Communicates regularly and as needed with parents.
- Initiates parent teacher conferences and responds to parental inquiries by the end of the next school day.
- Attend Open Houses, special events (such as concerts, plays, and special presentations) and certain staff meetings designated as All Faculty Meetings.
- Attend all Independence Classical Academy professional development opportunities, including New Faculty Orientation.
- Supports and enforces the school. Dress and behavior codes and makes reasonable efforts to promote the orderly behavior of all students in the school, on the grounds, and at off-campus school activities.
- Keep accurate records and make reports as required by the Headmaster.
- Evaluate and document the student's day-to-day work, prepare the quarter report and prepare and participate in the formal semester evaluation and conference.
- Attend and participate in review meetings with the Headmaster.
- Is an active member of the community of learners and continues to pursue his or her own professional growth and development by taking graduate courses and/or attending seminars and workshops related to the profession.
- Pursues excellence in teaching and continues to develop his or her own knowledge of the great ideas and works of Western Civilization.
- Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures.
- Maintain positive supervision at all times while in the classroom and on campus.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in the state of Nevada.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and classroom management.
- Strong understanding of childhood development principles and special education practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students and staff.
- Experience working with children, particularly in preschool or early childhood settings.
Qualifications, Competencies, and Strengths:
- Teachers must hold at least a bachelor's degree.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Certification is not required to teach at Independence Classical Academy. ICA teachers, whether certified or not, demonstrate a commitment to and love for the liberal arts.
- Fingerprint Clearance: shall have a valid Department of Public Safety IVP fingerprint clearance card.
Physical Functions:
- Must be able to maintain a stationary position for 25% of the time.
- May frequently move around. The classroom, position self to be level with student's desks and communicate accurate information and converse with others for 75% of the time.
Work Environment:
- May be required to move or position equipment up to 10-15 pounds.
- May be exposed to outdoor weather.
Equipment Used:
- Some computer use is expected.
Some travel may be required for special events and/or field trips.
