HVAC Educator /Instructor / Trainer — Career Training Program
Location: Miami, FL (on-site)
Job type: Full-time or Part-time (flexible scheduling, including evening/weekend classes)
Pay: $30.00–$40.00 per hour (based on experience and certifications)
About Us
The Academy is a Miami-based career and technical training school preparing students for high-demand, well-paying trades. We're launching a new HVAC training program and are looking for an experienced, hands-on instructor to help build the next generation of skilled HVAC technicians. Position Summary
The HVAC Instructor delivers classroom and hands-on lab instruction covering the fundamentals of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. You'll teach students the technical skills, safety practices, and professional habits they need to pass industry certifications and succeed in the field.
Responsibilities
- Teach HVAC/R theory and hands-on lab skills following the program curriculum
- Instruct students on installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and light-commercial HVAC systems
- Cover core topics: electrical fundamentals, refrigeration cycle, airflow, heat pumps, EPA 608 refrigerant handling, tools, and safety
- Prepare students for industry certification exams (including EPA 608)
- Demonstrate proper use of tools, gauges, meters, and diagnostic equipment
- Maintain a safe, organized, and well-stocked lab environment
- Track attendance, grade assignments, and document student progress
- Provide mentorship, feedback, and support to help students stay on track
- Keep lesson materials current with industry codes, standards, and best practices
Required Qualifications
- EPA 608 certification (Universal)
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on HVAC/R field experience
- Strong working knowledge of residential and light-commercial systems
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- Reliable, professional, and passionate about developing others
- Must pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience
- Additional certifications (NATE, R-410A, Florida HVAC/mechanical license)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
