Job Purpose:
House of Academia is seeking a creative and dynamic Elective Teacher to join our team for grades 6th–12th. Our classrooms are structured in groups, with grades 6th & 7th, 8th & 9th, and so on, paired together. We are looking for an educator who can bring passion and innovation to our elective programs, with a primary focus on Spanish and Art. The ability/willingness to teach Life Skills is a plus but not required for this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
- Providing instruction that meets the IEP goals of special needs students
- Implementing a school-provided curriculum framework to create engaging elective courses in Spanish, Art, and Life Skills for grades 6th–12th
- Cultivating a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages individual expression through conversation, play, and creativity
- Employing diverse teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles
- Assessing student progress regularly and providing constructive feedback
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues and parents to enhance educational experiences
- Developing and executing comprehensive lesson plans
- Managing classrooms of 12–15 students across various levels
- Utilizing Google Classroom and other technology tools proficiently
Qualifications:
Qualifications include (but are not limited to):
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; teaching certification preferred
- Proven experience teaching elective courses at middle and high school levels
- Minimum of 2 years working with special education students
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective lesson plans
- Experience managing classrooms with 12–15 students
- Proficiency in using Google Classroom and other educational technology
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively
- Ability to teach Spanish and Art (Life Skills is a plus)
- Passion for education and inspiring students
- Flexibility in adapting to program changes and assignments
- Ability to pass a background screening and possess reliable transportation
