Education/Employment Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW

This professional level position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as specific knowledge of the community needs. It requires knowledge of the area of the educational system and local schools, the ability in developing educational and career plans along with financial literacy and other Life Skills so that participants may become self-sufficient and live a good quality of life. Monday – Friday 8:30a - 4:30p.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assess participants and their children for educational needs and develop a comprehensive plan of services based on the identified needs and participant's wishes. 


• Must be familiar with institutions of higher learning, occupational/post-secondary and vocational programs and develop a career plan strategy for the advancements of the participants.


• Provide necessary instruction that will tailor to participant’s educational needs and skills/educational level to accomplish successful educational training and future employment.


• Assist with adult and children school enrollment.


• Referral to educational or employment agencies to the clients based on their needs.


• Maintain up-to-date progress notes and various documentation on participant file.


• Assist with the development comprehensive educational service plan.


• Generate weekly and monthly reports tracking the progress of program participants.


• Work closely with the case manager to ensure a solid plan of action for participants and children in the program.


• Guide participants through career and education exploration.


• Ability to assess client's skills and educational levels.


• Ability to handle fast-paced environment with many different tasks at one time.


• Assist participants in creating an independent living plan.


• Assist with entitlement applications.

REQUIREMENTS

• Associate Degree required


• Bachelor’s degree preferred. 


• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in an educational/employment setting.


• Bilingual (Spanish /English) preferred. Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, have strong organizational skills.


• Must have knowledge in the use of computer and work processing software.


• Must obtain Mandated reporter (2 hours) training/certificate within 30 days from hire.
