POSITION: Parent/Family Literacy Coordinator

 

LOCATION: Abner Creek Academy/Berry Shoals Elementary/Reidville Elementary

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

 60 hours of college courses (required)

 Degree (BS, BA) preferred

 Teaching Certificate (preferred)

 Experience in Social Work (preferred )                                  

 

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

 

JOB GOALS:

 

Plan and implement lessons in the home to focus on improved child readiness to enter school; to provide a model for positive interactions as a parent within the lessons provided; to identify needs and work with the parent to locate resources to assist  

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and conducts parent groups and activities for young children and their parents
  • Provides home visits to families utilizing an approved parenting curriculum
  • Conducts family assessments as required
  • Assists families in locating needed resources in the community
  • Collects and inputs data into the approved data collection system
  • Participates in training opportunities and scheduled team meetings
  • Promotes parent participation and involvement in educational activities provided for their children
  • Participates in family recruitment strategies
  • Assists in programmatic planning and evaluation as needed
  • Communicate with parents to keep them aware of their children’s needs and learning activities
  • Maintain the code of preschool ethics and privacy for parents
  • Assist with preparing information packets for new families
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrators

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Office and field environments with limited exposure to environmental and weather conditions of heat, cold, noise, dust, wetness, etc.  Physical demands are restricted to field activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to fifty pounds.  Routine local travel required; requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines.
