Overview
Welcome Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Human Resources to lead all HR functions at the AC Hotel Pasadena, a modern lifestyle Marriott property located in the heart of Pasadena.
This role is responsible for developing and executing human resources strategy, supporting operational leaders, and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and union labor requirements. The Director of Human Resources will play a critical role in shaping a compliant, engaged, and service-driven workplace culture aligned with Marriott brand standards and Welcome Group’s entrepreneurial operating philosophy.
Union experience is required for this position.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR leader who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment and brings deep experience in unionized hotel operations, employee relations, and California labor compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, training, compliance, and performance management
- Serve as primary HR liaison for union-related matters including contract interpretation, grievance handling, discipline, and labor relations
- Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBA), company policies, and all applicable labor laws
- Partner with the General Manager and department leaders to support workforce planning and operational needs
- Manage employee relations investigations, corrective action, and conflict resolution in a fair, consistent, and legally compliant manner
- Oversee recruitment strategies to attract and retain high-quality talent in a competitive hospitality market
- Develop and implement training programs supporting service excellence, compliance, and leadership development
- Ensure consistent application of performance management and progressive discipline processes
- Maintain accurate HR records and ensure compliance with audit and legal requirements
- Support wage and hour compliance, including meal and rest break adherence and timekeeping practices
- Serve as a culture leader promoting accountability, professionalism, and employee engagement
- Partner with corporate leadership on HR reporting, compliance, and strategic initiatives
Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of California labor law and hospitality HR compliance
- Extensive experience in unionized hotel environments (required)
- Proven ability to manage employee relations in a high-volume hospitality setting
- Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to conduct and document workplace investigations
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and emotional intelligence
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to partner effectively with operational leaders in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience in hospitality or related industry
- Prior experience in a union hotel environment required
- Strong knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and labor relations processes
- Experience in California hospitality HR strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Experience with Marriott or branded hotel systems preferred
- Demonstrated success in employee relations, compliance, and HR leadership roles
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $110,000 – $120,000 DOE
