OVERVIEW
POSITION Accounting Intern (entry-level, with opportunity for full-time employment)
PAY Flexible
LOCATION Onsite in Chicago (Brighton Park)
HOURS Part-time internship, 6 – 12 hours a week, Tuesdays and / or Thursdays, 8 weeks
JOB DESCRIPTION Assist with client engagements and gain exposure to a variety of industries. Apply your technical knowledge while working alongside management personnel. Learn from their expertise as you develop your skills. The internship can be used as a gateway to a part-time or full-time tax preparation and accounting position (based on performance). Ideal for someone interested in gaining firsthand experience within the accounting field with the added opportunity to prepare tax returns if offered a permanent position.

QUALIFICATIONS / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of 2 semesters (or equivalent) of college coursework in accounting or 1 year of work experience in income tax or accounting
- Prior work experience in customer service (minimum of 1 year preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Existing PTIN or eligibility to apply for one (see link for application requirements https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/ptin-application-checklist-what-you-need-to-get-started)
- Bilingual English and Spanish
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in different accounting processes (identifying, recording, and posting business transactions in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online)
- Work with client personnel to reconcile account differences and analyze financial data
- Communicate with management in a timely, courteous, and professional manner
- Perform filing and all other job duties as assigned
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Adaptability and eagerness to learn modern technologies like tax preparation software
- Capability of working in a semi-paperless working environment
- Sound organizational, client service, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills (proficient in conveying and comprehending information verbally and in writing, including presentations)
- Efficient time management; capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Ability to collaborate well with a team as well as work independently
- Proactive and willing to take initiative
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
