We are a leading rubber liner and industrial fabrication company specializing in metal fabrication, rubber lining, wear protection, and corrosion-resistant systems for mission-critical applications. Abtrex designs and fabricates ASME pressure vessels, storage/processing tanks, and other ancillary equipment including piping, tumblers, and hoppers.
We serve demanding industries including mining, power generation, chemical processing, steel, pulp & paper, cement, water/wastewater, and heavy manufacturing. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in South Bend, Indiana.
Responsibilities
- Design and analyze mechanical and piping systems and pressure vessels/tanks according to ASME Section VIII, API 620, and API 650 standards.
- Interpret and apply design specifications and standards (I.e., ASME, ASTM, and ASCE).
- Use SolidWorks to generate detailed part models, assemblies, drawings, and perform routine engineering calculations.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) design studies in SolidWorks Simulation
- Understand project requirements, plans, specifications, and codes to deliver accurate submittals.
- Provide estimating services, including conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction-level estimates.
- Develop construction cost estimates across different phases of a project's life cycle.
- Manage mechanical project scopes independently, handling estimates, bid packages, and technical project delivery ranging from $25K to $10MM.
- Develop and present technical proposals and engineering solutions tailored to specific customer operational requirements.
- Review supplier and subcontractor submittals, including technical proposals, pricing, and change orders, ensuring compliance with mechanical specifications.
- Create and implement standard work instructions, testing protocols, and value engineering initiatives to drive continuous process improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (candidates with at least 10 years relevant experience as opposed to education will be considered as well).
- 5 years of experience in tank and/or structural design and fabrication.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, including Weldments and Sheet Metal.
- Familiarity with ASTM/ASME/API standards and knowledge of welding and engineering practices.
- Background in steel fabrication is required.
- Familiarity with structural fabrication, industrial construction contracts, and terminology.
- Project management and cost estimating experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation abilities.

Salary: $95,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
