Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer drives process improvements that support safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals across our operations. Based in Irvine, CA, this role partners with teams in Irvine, Corona, and Long Beach to solve problems, remove bottlenecks, and implement lean manufacturing practices that improve efficiency and throughput. This role will also lead the rollout of a new bottle filling, packaging, and labeling line—supporting process design, equipment integration, automation, and operational readiness to ensure a smooth launch and long-term success.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

· Lead and support end-to-end implementation of a bottling/filling line, including packaging and labeling equipment, from concept and vendor evaluation through installation, commissioning, and ramp to steady-state production.

· Develop process flows, line layouts, staffing models, and standard work for filling, capping, labeling, packaging, inspection, and case packing/palletizing (as applicable).

· Coordinate cross-functional activities with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Safety, Supply Chain, and external vendors/system integrators to ensure schedule, performance, and compliance requirements are met.

· Establish process parameters, in-process checks, and start-up/shutdown and changeover procedures to support consistent output and quality.

· Support automation-related activities for the line (controls, sensors, interlocks, vision/inspection, conveyors, reject stations, integration of upstream/downstream equipment).

· Identify and implement error-proofing and safety improvements; ensure equipment and processes meet EHS expectations.

· Define equipment requirements and acceptance criteria (FAT/SAT) and verify performance against throughput, downtime, and quality targets.

· Identify, prioritize, and execute process improvement projects that reduce waste, improve flow, and increase productivity using lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, standard work, visual management, value stream mapping).

· Conduct time studies, capacity analysis, and bottleneck assessments; develop recommendations to improve throughput and reduce lead times.

· Drive OEE improvements by reducing cycle time losses, changeover time, minor stops, and scrap/rework.

Problem Solving & Constraint Management

· Organize complex manufacturing problems by identifying critical steps, constraints, and interdependencies; develop clear action plans with owners, timelines, and measurable outcomes.

· Lead structured root cause analysis and corrective actions for process-related issues (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D); verify effectiveness and sustain improvements.

· Partner with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to address recurring downtime, defects, or variability.

· Create, maintain, and improve manufacturing documentation including process flows, work instructions, SOPs, and standard work.

· Train and support operators, technicians, and production leads on new processes and standardized methods; ensure adoption and adherence.

· Support audits and compliance needs by ensuring documentation is accurate, controlled, and accessible.

· Serve as a key engineering resource for the Corona and Long Beach manufacturing teams, ensuring consistent processes, metrics, and best practices across locations.

· Communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels—from operators and supervisors to managers and cross-functional partners—building alignment and driving execution.

· Provide on-site engineering coverage as needed to support installation activities, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement events.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.

· Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

· Bottling, filling, and automation experience is required, with demonstrated involvement in projects implementing or upgrading bottle filling, packaging, labeling, and/or conveying systems.

· Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methods.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions and levels.

· Demonstrated ability to organize complex problems by identifying critical steps, constraints, and dependencies, and converting them into actionable plans.

· Ability to travel frequently (40%) to Corona, CA and infrequently to Long Beach, CA.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with commissioning activities and acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) for packaging/filling equipment.

· Lean/Six Sigma training or certification (Green Belt or equivalent).

· Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, A3, DOE, SPC).

· Familiarity with MES/ERP systems and production KPI tracking (OEE, FPY, scrap/rework).

· Exposure to hygienic/sanitary design principles (if applicable to the product).

Work Environment & Safety Requirements

Work may be performed in a laboratory, manufacturing, warehouse, or office environment, depending on the role. Employees may be exposed to moderate noise, odors, or chemical substances typical of a research or manufacturing setting. Compliance with all safety protocols and company policies is required.
