Level III HVAC Systems Technician – Commercial & Industrial Are you the go-to pro for chillers, boilers, and controls? Do you enjoy moving from a rooftop unit at sunrise to a BAS troubleshooting call in the afternoon, then closing the loop with pristine documentation? If you’re motivated by customer impact and technical mastery, this role is for you. Role Snapshot Department: ServiceManager: Service ManagerSchedule: Core availability 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, plus after-hours service calls as neededHourly Range: $30.00 – $42.00 What You’ll Do Drive a company vehicle, arrive at the scheduled time and location, and transition efficiently between dispatched sitesFollow Supervisor/Dispatcher directions; check in and out on every call; complete daily timecards and service forms within required time framesInstall, service, and troubleshoot HVAC systems, boilers, pumps, VRF equipment, and perform full compressor change-outsLay out and run refrigerant piping; code-compliant condensate drains; properly charge AC/refrigeration systemsInstall and program VFDs; apply knowledge of building controls and BAS fundamentalsExecute standard pressure testing and commissioning practices: triple evac, superheat/subcooling, charge strategies for TXV vs. fixed metering, identify non-condensables, perform oil sampling/acid tests, line-set flush, and brazingDiagnose boilers and identify likely points of failure such as pulleys, sheaves, heat exchangers, and pump seals; rebuild pumps and maintain cooling towersUnderstand chillers, pump curves, hydronic piping, hydronics, and airflow fundamentalsAdhere to all site safety guidelines; wear PPE (gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, other required gear) and work safely at heights and on ladders (12’ step, 28’ extension)Maintain and organize tools and vehicle; report issues; keep items secured and tied down; perform/track maintenance (e.g., tires, oil changes)Prepare and protect work areas using drop cloths, moving furniture, and floor protection; keep the site tidy by sweeping and removing trash dailyPick up parts from vendors; secure supervisor approval for tool purchases; use vendor-specific POs only for the designated vendor; obtain POs when requiredUse mobile devices to follow service software workflowsMentor apprentices and earn positive customer feedback through professional, courteous service; do not smoke on customer premises Must-Haves High School Diploma; Heating/AC CertificateGas Service License; Lift LicenseConfined Space CertificationEPA CertificationOSHA 30; NFPA 70E; Rigger and Signal CertificationValid Driver’s License and insurable driving recordOwn proper hand tools; safely operate power and hand toolsStrong customer service orientation; willingness for continued education (classes/seminars)Mechanical aptitude; accurate math skillsFull compressor change-out capabilityRead/write English; follow verbal and written directionsComfortable at varying heights; work from 12’ step and 28’ extension laddersLoad and unload trucks as neededPerform combustion testingUnderstanding of airflow and hydronic systemsOn-time, accurate timecard submissions How You’ll Succeed Show up—attendance is essential—and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervisionCommunicate clearly, collaborate as a team player, and lead by example with a positive attitudeModel safe work practices and keep learning new skills and technologiesEarn positive customer reviews through professionalism and craftsmanship Safety, Physical, and Environmental Walk, stoop, balance, squat, climb, reach overhead, talk, hear, and drive as regular parts of the job; frequent use of hands for fine tasksOccasionally lift/move 50–100 lbs.; visual acuity includes close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focusWork outdoors in current weather; certified work in confined spaces for short periodsRecommendation: carry a second set of clothing based on weather conditions Performance Standards Customer compliments and resolution of concernsLegible, complete, and timely paperworkIndependent work capabilitySelf-starting initiative Core Proficiencies HVAC/R Systems; HVAC Service & Installation; HVAC Maintenance; HVAC Troubleshooting; HVAC RepairMechanical Troubleshooting; Electrical TroubleshootingBoiler Operation; Boiler Troubleshooting; Boiler CertificationOSHA 10-Hour Certification (OSHA 10)EPA Certification Technologies You’ll Touch Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)Servo Motors Compliance Notices Verbatim statements from the original description:**FLSA Status / Type:Non-Exempt / Full-Time**Physical demands and work environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
