A Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) is a recent nursing program graduate who is awaiting licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New York State. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the GPN provides basic nursing care and supports patient treatment plans in healthcare settings

Position Summary
A Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) is a recent nursing program graduate who is awaiting licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New York State. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the GPN provides basic nursing care and supports patient treatment plans in healthcare settings
Key Responsibilities
- Provide basic patient care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility assistance
- Measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)
- Assist with wound care and simple medical procedures
- Administer medications only as permitted under supervision and state guidelines
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes to supervising RN
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Support infection control and safety protocols
- Assist patients with daily living activities (ADLs)
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
- Works under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Cannot practice independently until fully licensed as an LPN
- GPNs are welcome! With our ratios, we have the bandwidth to provide excellent orientation and mentorship.
- Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program
- Eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam
- Current CPR/BLS certification (often required)
- Basic clinical and patient care skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
- Compassion and patient-centered care approach
- GPN: :$26–$28/hour
- After licensure rate will increase to $28.50 - $35.50
- Pass NCLEX-PN → Become LPN
- Gain experience → specialize or move into higher-paying roles
- Option to pursue RN (Associate or BSN)
