Abrenio Choe is a boutique personal injury, medical malpractice, and criminal defense law firm located in Fairfax City, Virginia. We represent individuals that are either harmed by others' negligence or are criminally accused throughout Northern Virginia.

We are a family-centered law firm. And when we say that, we mean it. The law firm's owners, James Abrenio and Linda Choe, are not only law partners but are married. They have two young children. So, this is why we are asking for help.

We enjoy practicing law. We also enjoy working with folks interested in learning about the law and helping people. And we also have a strong emphasis on doing what is right.

Location: This will primarily be a remote position. While the firm has an office located in Fairfax City, they mostly work remotely. With that said, the role will require occasional travel. This will include trips to the office to check the mail. This will also include trips to courthouses for filing pleadings and other documents, as well as picking up said documents.

Additionally, given that we are a trial law firm, occasionally, you will accompany the attorneys to court to assist at trial. This is the funnest part of the job. While we don't try cases at a high volume, we do try cases regularly.

Description:

• Assist the attorneys with intake calls from potential new clients.
• Assist attorneys in opening new client files. For personal injury matters, this would include preparing letters of representation and reaching out to insurance companies to let them know we are involved in the case. This would also include organizing the multiple documents involved in each injury case, as well as assisting with the requesting and organization of medical records and other documents. 
• For criminal cases, this will include preparing notices of appearance, opening physical files, and sending out additional requests for discovery.
• For complex injury cases, will be asked to attend new client meetings with potential clients who are either hospitalized or homebound due to their injuries.
• Reaching out to medical providers to determine whether there are outstanding medical bills in various cases. 
• While the attorneys often are hands-on with their litigation cases, you may also be asked to assist in preparing and reviewing pleadings for court.
• As mentioned above, while this is primarily a remote position, we will ask you to check the mail at the office once or twice a week. And should there be a complex trial, we may ask you to assist us in trial.
• Our firm employs state-of-the-art software. Therefore, you will be asked to work with the software and within the software in the preparation and organization of our cases.
• We are not a high-volume firm. We focus more on complex injury and criminal cases. Therefore, while we don't have a significant caseload, we do handle high-pressure cases which require a lot of contact with clients as well as a lot of moving parts. You will be asked to be self-sufficient, but of course, always ask questions when needed.
• Given the complexity of our work, you may also be asked to do other random tasks on a case-by-case basis.  

Requirements:

• High school graduation is required, and at least some college education is preferred.
• We prefer prior experience working in a law firm. However, we are more interested in finding the right person rather than the right resume. So, if you think you'd be a good fit, you are organized, and you work well with people, and you want to learn about the law, feel free to apply.

Hours: Currently, this is a part-time position. So you will likely have 20-30 hours of work per week. However, depending on your work with the firm, it could become a full-time position.

While the position is part-time, the hours are flexible. Our view is that, so long as you're able to check the mail, make and return calls during work hours, make filings as well as accompany the attorney when needed, other non-time-sensitive tasks can be completed at your convenience.

Compensation: $22-28 per hour, depending on training and experiences. We also pay bonuses for great work. We also offer a Roth 401(k) plan.
