Location: Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center, 700 Four Mile Parkway, Canon City, CO 81212

If you have always wanted to be a teacher and have a bachelor’s or higher degree (from a regionally accredited college or university), you may be ready to become an alternative educator candidate! Alternative educator candidates may include:

• Recent undergraduates who have never enrolled in or did not complete a teacher preparation program;


• Early career changers, who have graduated from college, worked for a few years, and realize that they want to become educators;


• Community members who have college degrees and life experiences, and want to have a positive impact on the lives of the children in their community;


• Paraprofessionals who have completed their bachelor’s degrees and are seeking a pathway to licensure;


• Retired military members who would like to “serve again” by becoming educators.

Compensation: $60,000 Annually

Job Type: Full-time

Shift: Monday - Friday

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

· Teaching certificate/license (Secondary level required) from the state of Colorado, or enrollment in Alternative Licensure Program

· Endorsement and/or licensure in Special Education, Affective Needs or Generalist

· Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery

· Meets the requirements of ‘No Child Left Behind’ Education Act

Other Qualifications:

• At least twenty-one (21) years of age.


• Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State & child clearances and, if necessary, FBI).


• Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.


• Non-communicable diseases physical exam, drug test


• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
