Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and experienced candidate to cover a leave replacement in the Early Childhood (EC) and Lower School (LS) Physical Education Department, beginning in January 2026. The EC/LS Physical Education teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop a curriculum that promotes grade-level standards in physical education and fitnessInstruct students on the basic techniques needed to play team sports and other recreational games/activitiesCo-Teach EC/LS Physical Education classes and recessesDiscuss the importance of living a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activityMonitor and document student participation and progressLead After-School Sports Clubs in the Early Childhood and Lower School divisionsQualificationsAssociates or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university3-5 years teaching and/or coaching experience in Physical Education and/or AthleticsFirst-Aid-CPR-AED CertifiedKnowledge of rules & regulations, strategies, and techniques involved with individual and team sportsStrong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skillsAbility to adapt and improvise lessons based on time and/or space constraintsAbility to provide feedback in a manner that advances students’ knowledge, skills, and confidencePassion for teaching and a willingness to learnPreferred: Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related area; any level of coaching certification from a recognized sport governing bodyQualified applicants should upload a cover letter and resume.
