Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a full-time High School Learning Specialist for the 2026-27 school year.


The role of a High School Learning Specialist is to provide academic support to students, implement best practices for differentiated instruction, communicate with teachers and parents, and partner with the high school psychologist to determine appropriate accommodations and individualized learning plans.


The High School Learning Specialist is supervised by our High School Psychologist and serves as part of a team who staff the Learning Lab which is a dynamic environment that supports students on comprehensive academic challenges. It is a space designed to support a wide range of students to seek and receive academic support throughout the day. The High School Learning Specialist provides students with direct educational support and instruction related to mathematics, chemistry, physics, humanities, specific language based learning disorders, difficulties in comprehension, written expression, executive functioning (including study skills, note-taking, and time management), for students with a range of learning differences. 


The ideal candidate will be flexible, innovative, empathetic, equipped with a good sense of humor, and predisposed to working collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents, and students. The candidate will work in close partnership with the other Learning Specialists staffing the Learning Lab, to develop and implement strategies both in the classroom and within the Learning Lab. Communication with parents and teachers are critical, fueling a team approach to supportive instruction. 


Experience in the areas of teaching, language, differentiated learning, and the development of academic skills and executive functioning in adolescents should be complemented by a background in both mathematics and the Humanities. Familiarity with the ACT/SAT accommodations application process is a plus. Applicants must have excellent writing skills, possess knowledge of high school-level literature and history, and feel comfortable interpreting neuropsychological reports for purposes of designing learning plans, determining accommodations, and holding family meetings. A graduate degree in a field related to the Humanities, secondary education, special education, learning, cognition, and/or language development is required.

The full-time equivalent salary range is $65,000 - $105,000, depending on years of experience.
