Role Description
We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Pastry Assistant to join our Above and Beyond Catering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation, both savory and sweet with an emphasis on baked goods and desserts. This role is great for someone who is currently working as an assistant in the pastry department who is seeking to advance their career and also looking for flexible hours and/or split hours. Prior experience in cake decorating, food handling, and kitchen operations is highly valued.
Duties
- Daily pastry production and basic baking tasks
- Help prepare menu items and follow established recipes
- Maintain consistent product quality and presentation
- Is able to execute food production activities by measuring ingredients, mixing batters, and assembling products
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry station and kitchen area in compliance with food safety standards
- Handle food safely by adhering to proper hygiene practices and sanitation procedures
- Assist with catering orders and special event preparations as needed
- Operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, knives, and ovens safely and efficiently
- Contribute to a positive work environment through respecting and working as a team player when interacting with others in the kitchen and work under the direction of the Chef and Sous Chef
Qualifications
- Previous experience in pastry arts, baking, or culinary environments preferred; restaurant or catering experience is a plus
- Skills in cake decorating, food presentation, and packaging techniques
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper food handling procedures
- Strong knife skills and familiarity with baking equipment
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively
- Prior experience in the food industry or culinary training is desirable but not mandatory; enthusiasm for learning is essential
- Ability to perform various motor skills, such as lifting, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, squatting, grasping, and arm-hand coordination continuously. Able to lift 50 pounds.
