We are looking for a Senior Estimator for a $400 million commercial general construction company in Rochester, NY. Projects across a variety of sectors including healthcare,
education, retail, and industrial spaces.
Position Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This individual will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, architects, and clients to analyze project documents and determine the overall scope and cost of the work. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in commercial construction estimating. This position offers a path to Chief Estimator.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze architectural and engineering drawings, project specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
Prepare and submit RFIs to clarify plans and specifications as needed.
Develop and maintain project budgets, bid proposals, and detailed take-offs.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients during the bidding and pre-construction phases.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
Participate in bid reviews and post-bid meetings.
Maintain a current database of pricing, vendors, and industry trends.
Track awarded jobs and maintain organized records for future reference.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
5 years of experience estimating commercial construction projects.
Strong knowledge of construction materials, means, and methods.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
Familiarity with estimating software.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment under tight deadlines.
