Team Leadership & Department Support
- Assist the Department Manager/ VP of Construction Management in the daily operations of the Construction Group, including staff coordination, workload planning, and performance management.
- Mentor and develop Construction Engineers, Inspectors, and EITs, support career advancement, certifications, and technical training.
- Provide guidance on construction inspection procedures, documentation standards, and quality assurance protocols.
- Lead business development efforts for the CM group and work closely with marketing for proposals.
- Actively participate in professional societies
- Help lead recruitment efforts, onboarding, and team culture initiatives.
- Oversee construction inspection activities for multiple transportation, infrastructure, and site development projects.
- Ensure contractor compliance with plans, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.
- Conduct high-level field reviews and support Resident Engineers on complex technical issues.
- Review and validate project documentation including inspection reports, daily diaries, test results, and contract quantities.
- Support claims review, change order documentation, and contractor communications.
- Maintain strong relationships with IDOT, Tollway, municipalities, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings, public meetings, and coordination sessions as required.
- Represent ABNA professionally and effectively, ensuring client satisfaction and repeat business opportunities.
- Contribute to department growth strategies, new business pursuits, and proposal development.
- Support continuous improvement of processes, safety practices, and project delivery methods.
- Track department metrics, staffing forecasts, and project performance indicators.
Requirements
Education & Professional Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (required).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois (required).
- Master’s degree or advanced training in construction management is a plus.
- 12-15 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, construction engineering, or construction management.
- Extensive experience with transportation, municipal, or infrastructure construction projects.
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is preferred.
- Strong familiarity with IDOT, ISTHA, municipal, and federal construction standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and construction documentation/inspection software.
- CADD experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA requirements.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to attend meetings outside of normal work hours when required.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift 25 lbs during field visits.
