About ABL Fitness
ABL Fitness is a nonprofit, inclusive functional fitness center dedicated to helping individuals of all ages and abilities thrive especially those with neurodiversity. We specialize in adaptive fitness for ages 5 to 65 plus and offer small-group training with high staff-to-athlete ratios, as well as individualized 1:1 sessions. Our mission is to make fitness accessible, empowering, and meaningful for every athlete.
Position Overview
We are seeking passionate, compassionate, and motivated Fitness Coaches to join our growing team. Candidates should hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or a related field and share our commitment to inclusive, evidence-based fitness. Candidates could also have a personal trainer certification from ACSM.
ABL Fitness is actively working toward becoming a certified medical fitness clinic and is looking for professionals who want to be part of this innovative and impactful model. Our programs serve athletes ages 5–8, 8–14, and 14 , including our Limitless Strength program and Inclusive Powerlifting Team (training in partnership with Special Olympics). We also offer Kids Fitness Programs for neurotypical individuals ages 5-8 and 8-12. We are launching our new ABL Senior Strong class, an Exercise is Medicine driven program designed to support strength, health, and independence in the 65 plus population.
The ideal candidate presumes competence in all athletes and brings energy, empathy, flexible mindset and professionalism to every session. Comprehensive training in adaptive and neurodiversity-affirming coaching is provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead small-group inclusive functional fitness classes focused on functional movement, strength, coordination, and social engagement (maximum of 8 athletes with 3 coaches).
- Collaborate with assistant coaches, volunteers before, during and after class to support athletes’ needs.
- Adapt exercises, instruction, and communication styles to meet diverse needs, including athletes with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and other developmental or physical disabilities.
- Collaborate with fellow coaches, therapists, and families to support individualized goals.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with athletes and their families.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and motivating training environment.
- Model professionalism, empathy, and inclusive leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field required
- Advanced degree in Allied Health fields preferred
- ACSM certification preferred, with interest in Exercise is Medicine® credentialing
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with adaptive populations is a plus (training provided)
