AbilityPath is hiring for Community and Site Program Instructor.

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of adults with diverse abilities?

JOIN OUR TEAM to facilitate site-based and community integrated group learning activities and empower adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives.

Compensation: $24-$25/hour (based on education and experience)

Schedule:  Full-time Monday – 6 or 8 hour shifts available between 8:30am-5:00pm

ABOUT THE ROLE – What we value:

Life Skills Coaching: Provide one-on-one and group coaching to develop essential life skills to live independently. Tailor instruction to individual needs and learning styles.

Community Volunteering: Facilitate and supervise volunteer opportunities for adults with disabilities, fostering a sense of purpose and community engagement. Coordinate with local organizations to create meaningful volunteer experiences.

Community Engagement: Plan and lead group outings to participate in various community locations such as parks, museums, and local events. Ensure safe transportation and access to services through pick-up and drop-off transportation. Support clients in navigating public spaces while promoting social interaction and independence.

Learning and Growth: Develop learning activities and lead structured learning sessions on various topics such as current events, basic academics, technology use, and social skills. Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning abilities and styles.

Physical Health and Well-being: Promote healthy lifestyle choices through exercise programs, nutritional guidance, and wellness activities. Support adults with disabilities in maintaining personal health routines and making healthy choices in their lives.

Recreational and Social Activities: Organize and lead engaging recreational activities that encourage socialization, teamwork, and personal growth. These may include sports, games, movie nights, and holiday celebrations.

Job Skill Training: Lead group training sessions to develop pre-vocational skills. Assist clients in identifying career interests, learn relevant skills needed in the workplace, and develop workplace etiquette.

Creative Arts and Personal Expression: Facilitate accessible art classes, music sessions, and other creative activities that allow adults with disabilities to express themselves and explore new interests. Encourage participation in community art shows or performances when appropriate.

Person-Centered Planning: Participate in developing and implementing individualized support plans. Collaborate with team members, adults served, families, and interdisciplinary teams to set goals, track progress, and adjust plans as needed to ensure each person's unique needs and aspirations are addressed.

Celebrate Progress: Document learning and goal progress for adults with disabilities in case management system.

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 years previous work or volunteer experience supporting adults with disabilities
  • Associate degree or working towards completion

HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid California Driver’s License/ID and license for at least 3 years if under age of 25
  • Clean driving record of 3 years ( minor infractions ok)
  • Proof of negative TB test results 
  • Verification of occupational physical clearance
  • Pass a criminal fingerprint clearance 
  • 18 years of age or job permit clearance

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

Instructor responsibilities include the physical support of children:

  • Physical stamina to lead learning activities: sit, stand, and bend frequently
  • Ability to drive vehicle and transport adults with disabilities
  • Lift up to 25 lbs. as needed
