What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engine Mechanic position at ABILENE MACHINE LLC?
JOB PURPOSE This position is responsible for preparation of engine blocks, building of oil pumps, SCV valves, and some supervised engine assembly.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Complete block prep work. This will include washing, deburring of sharp edges, inspection of components, and painting of components to build short and long blocks.
Prep of other engine block parts for each build, including oil galleys, cam and lifter bores, sealing surfaces in addition to watching for cracks or defects.
Complete checklist for each build ensuring each step is completed.
Disassemble, inspect, clean, and assemble engine oil pumps and hydraulic SCV valves.
Meet predetermined key indicators.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

Technical
Strong mechanical background/aptitude
Ability to perform basic measurements with a micrometer and/or dial indicators.
Forklift certified or the ability to complete in-house forklift certification.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical assessment
Physical
Ability to frequently lift, carry, bend, stoop and/or reach. Ability to exert 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25-50 pounds of force frequently (Level 4 Heavy Work).
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
Ability to successfully complete pre-employment functional capacity test.
Other
Ability to bring or acquire a basic tool set within the first 90 days of employment (Basic tool list is available upon request and a tool program is available to help offset cost).
Basic measuring equipment to perform the job.
Experience working with hand tools.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Willingness and flexibility to work on other projects as needed.
