Elementary PE Teacher

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in physical education to help them fulfill their potential for physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Enable students to develop motor skills, physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy habits to function successfully in society.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

• Valid Texas teaching certificate in Physical Education EC–6

• Demonstrated competency in physical education content and instructional strategies

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of physical education curriculum and instruction

• Ability to adapt PE activities to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities

• Ability to instruct students and manage behavior in a structured and safe environment

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES

• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet TEKS for physical education and show written evidence of planning as required.

• Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, equipment, and materials to promote the physical development and health of students.

• Adapt lessons for individual student needs, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.

• Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility through structured physical activities.

• Work cooperatively with other teachers and staff to align instruction and support student success.

• Supervise and direct any instructional aides or volunteers in the gym or activity setting.

STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

• Conduct assessments of student performance in physical fitness and motor skill development.

• Serve as a positive role model and promote the mission of the campus and district.

• Encourage students to develop healthy lifestyle habits and engage in lifelong physical activity.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION

• Establish a structured and safe environment appropriate for student growth and learning.

• Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and PE safety procedures.

• Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.

COMMUNICATION

• Maintain open and professional communication with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.

• Provide timely feedback on student progress and concerns as appropriate.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

• Participate in staff development activities to enhance knowledge and teaching practices.

• Stay current with developments in physical education standards, strategies, and safety.

• Comply with all state, district, and campus policies for teachers.

• Attend faculty meetings and serve on school committees as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise the work of any assigned paraprofessionals, aides, or volunteers during PE activities.

Tools/Equipment Used: PE equipment, fitness tools, personal computer and technology equipment
Posture: Frequent standing, walking, and physical movement

Lifting: Regular light to moderate lifting (15–50 pounds), including gym equipment
Environment: Indoor and outdoor settings; regular exposure to weather and noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; flexible schedule including possible extended or irregular hours

Salary : $38,510 - $61,760
