PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in physical education to help them fulfill their potential for physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Enable students to develop motor skills, physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy habits to function successfully in society.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate in Physical Education EC–6
-
Demonstrated competency in physical education content and instructional strategies
Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of physical education curriculum and instruction

Ability to adapt PE activities to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities

Ability to instruct students and manage behavior in a structured and safe environment

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES

Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet TEKS for physical education and show written evidence of planning as required.

Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, equipment, and materials to promote the physical development and health of students.

Adapt lessons for individual student needs, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.

Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility through structured physical activities.

Work cooperatively with other teachers and staff to align instruction and support student success.

Supervise and direct any instructional aides or volunteers in the gym or activity setting.
STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Conduct assessments of student performance in physical fitness and motor skill development.

Serve as a positive role model and promote the mission of the campus and district.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise the work of any assigned paraprofessionals, aides, or volunteers during PE activities.
