ABC Learning Center is a warm, community-focused early learning program dedicated to providing high‑quality care and enriching experiences for children. We are seeking a positive, energetic School Age Childcare Teacher to support our before/after‑school program, seasonal breaks, and summer program to help create a safe, engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.
The School Age Childcare Teacher supports the daily operations of our school-age classroom. Your responsibilities will include the following, give or take some specific duties on a daily basis;
- Support the implementation of a structured schedule aligned with WAC requirements and center policies.
- Implement engaging, age‑appropriate activities, including arts, STEM, games, outdoor play, and homework support including summer and seasonal breaks.
- Build positive, supportive relationships with children and help guide social–emotional development.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment that meets Early Achievers and licensing expectations.
- Supervise children during transitions, outdoor play, mealtimes, and field trips.
- Observe and assess children to better understand and meet children’s developmental needs.
- Communicate with families through the Procare app by sharing updates, photos, and daily highlights.
- Collaborate respectfully with coworkers and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Ensure the classroom is up to our quality standard of care and guidelines provided by Early Achievers and the Washington State Administrative Code.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of prior experience as a Lead teacher in ECE or working with school-age children in a licensed childcare or youth program.
- Current licensing educational requirements or be working on them
- Understanding of child development and positive behavior‑support strategies.
- Patience, flexibility, and love for children.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and time‑management skills.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Ability to meet DCYF licensing requirements, including: Portable Background Check, CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Food Handler’s Permit, and TB test.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 30 Hour Childcare Basics Course
Strongly Preferred
- ECE Initial or Short Certificate
- Experience with emergent curriculum or school‑age programming
- 45‑credit stackable certificate or 2‑year ECE degree (optional but valued)
