POSITIONS: Afterschool Homework Tutor (3rd-8th Grade)
REPORTS TO: Program Director
START DATE: January 12, 2026
LOCATION: Stanley G. Oswalt Academy Shadow Oak Dr, Walnut, CA 91789)
DAYS / HOURS: Part-Time, 5-15 hours a week (M-F / 2:30pm – 5:00pm)
*Flexible and accommodating to student school schedules
- We are currently looking for a tutor that can work Mondays and Wednesdays specifically. Mondays 1:30-5:00pm and Wednesdays 2:30-5:00pm.
HOURLY RATE: $18.00 / hour (*hourly rate adjusted annually based on performance)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- We are looking for an outgoing tutor with strong leadership skills. You will work alongside 3 tutors to conduct GROUP TUTORING in a classroom of 15-18 students. Tutors will work together to oversee the classroom, manage students' behavior and safety, and support students that need homework help.
- ** Strong math skills a PLUS (algebra, geometry)
KEY SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Leadership: outgoing and confident individual; must be able and willing to take an active role inside the classroom, lead and manage a group of students.
- Multi-task: able to work in a (sometimes) fast-paced environment, prioritize, handle multiple students at a time.
- Detail-oriented and organized
HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE:
- Tutor and monitor a group of 3-6 students simultaneously
- Double-check students' homework for accuracy and completeness
- Actively motivate students to work on their homework
- Update director and/or teachers when necessary for any concerns regarding students' performance, behavior, and/or academic needs.
CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage, control and maintain a quiet and studious environment
- Ensure that students do not disrupt each other
- Handle classroom/classmate conflicts
- Oversee safety and well-being of students
- Ensure that students follow classroom rules (no food/drinks, no computer games, etc.)
- Maintain classroom rules, set boundaries, discipline students when appropriate (time-out, no recess, parent contact, etc.)
- Keep classrooms clean and organized
- Proactively communicate student concerns and classroom issues to the Director and/or Leads.
OUT-OF-CLASS RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor children; ensure safety and well-being during recess
- Manage, control and maintain a safe environment outside of class
- Ensure that students follow classroom rooms (line up, no running, no screaming, stay within designated areas, etc.)
- Stay alert, and keep eyes on students at all times
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- ** Experience working with children a PLUS
- ** Strong math skills a PLUS (algebra, geometry)
- High-school Diploma
- Currently-enrolled college student (or graduate) with GPA 3.0 or higher
- Must be able to multi-task
- Mature, professional, and have strong communication skills
- Strong leadership skills, proactive and takes initiative
- Patient, open-minded, and enjoys working with children
- Mandarin Chinese language speakers highly desirable
- Background check required prior to start
