The Industrial Sanitation Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all sanitation programs to ensure a safe, clean, and compliant manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with FDA, USDA, OSHA, GMP, HACCP, and customer requirements while leading sanitation staff, managing chemical programs, and driving continuous improvement in sanitation effectiveness and food safety.
Key ResponsibilitiesSanitation Program Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain master sanitation schedules (MSS) for all equipment, rooms, and facility areas
- Ensure sanitation procedures meet GMP, HACCP, SQF, and internal quality standards
- Oversee allergen control and cross-contamination prevention programs
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, train, and schedule sanitation personnel
- Conduct onboarding and ongoing sanitation, chemical safety, GMP, and SSOP training
- Enforce sanitation SOPs and ensure proper use of PPE and sanitation equipment
- Coach team members and address performance or compliance issues
Compliance & Audits
- Maintain sanitation documentation, SSOPs, logs, and records
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits (FDA, third-party, customer)
- Investigate sanitation-related non-conformances and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs)
- Stay current on regulatory and industry sanitation requirements
Chemical & Equipment Management
- Manage sanitation chemical programs, including inventory, usage, and cost control
- Coordinate with chemical suppliers and service providers
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of sanitation chemicals
- Oversee sanitation equipment maintenance and replacement
Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Identify opportunities to improve sanitation efficiency, effectiveness, and labor utilization
- Collaborate with Maintenance, Production, and Quality teams to reduce downtime and improve cleanability
- Promote a strong food safety and safety culture
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and hazard communication programs
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- 3–5 years of sanitation management experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SSOPs, and sanitation best practices
- Experience leading teams and managing sanitation schedules
- Ability to read and interpret regulatory requirements and audit standards
Preferred
- Experience in food, beverage, dietary supplement, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Familiarity with ATP testing, environmental monitoring, and allergen control
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
