The Opportunity Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (formerly Alere) is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies. The position of Lead Positive Certifying Scientist is within Toxicology located at Gretna, LA at Alere Toxicology Services. In this role, the individual will be responsible for not only team lead of the certifying scientist, but also for analysis, review, and interpretation of analytical data in accordance with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations. What You’ll Work On Assist the Certifying Supervisor with coordinating duties of personnel, including daily assignments. Provide input and recommendations to improve daily operations within department or in the laboratory. Oversee the preparation of the GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS and initial review of data; as needed. Oversee the final review of analytical data. Counsel employees when SOPs or corporate policies are violated. Assist with training of new employees on all procedures and old employees on new procedures. Performs final review of drug confirmation data from the laboratory, compares with the initial screening data for accuracy prior to release of results. Initiates any corrective action in the lab on testing data reviewed and found incomplete or inconclusive. Assure that all documentation derived from testing procedures in maintained. Operates the GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS instruments; as needed. Must have knowledge of drug metabolism. Must converse with Medical Review Officers (MROs) and clients on the metabolism of the various drugs in an intelligent manner that is easily understood by the receipt of the information. Must be able to testify in court to drug test results generated in the lab; when needed. Adhere to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information. Must comply with company policies. If the employee has worked in a laboratory for >4 years and has a bachelor’s degree in science (>2 years with a master’s degree), the individual may qualify as a supervisor.
