Non-Secure Detention Worker - Morning Staff

We are seeking Non-Secure Detention Workers for our Non-Secure Detention Program located in East Elmhurst and Richmond Hill, NY.

Job Summary

The Childcare Counselor is responsible for the direct supervision and monitoring of youth in a non–secure setting. The Childcare counselor must ensure the day-to-day safety and security of the residence and the routines of the youth. The counselor assists the youth with various tasks including accomplishing their daily schedules and routines, completing their daily hygiene, and preparing their food among others.

General Responsibilities

• Ensure that children are provided with a clean and safe environment.
• Take residents to school and assist with homework.
• Monitor residents involved in activities
• Monitor residents throughout shift by ensuring residents are always in sight
• Inform Residence Manager of any problems
• Complete the Safety Crisis Management training satisfactorily
• Manage the transportation of youth to and from court and all other destinations.
• Manage the preparation of food and monitor residents at mealtimes.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and yearly trainings as designated.
• Prepare regular written reports, in the form of Logs and Critical Incident Reports.
• Perform all necessary activities assigned to further the agency’s mission

• Computer – The Childcare Counselor must be able to use a computer and able to learn software programs
• Office Equipment- The Childcare Counselor is required to operate a fax, copier, scan, and other office equipment.
• Communication - The Childcare Counselor needs to be able to speak, read and write fluently in the English language
• Writing - The Childcare Counselor must be able to write in the English language using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
• Lifting - The Childcare Counselor may frequently lift 0-25 lbs., occasionally lift 25-50 lbs., and rarely lift over 50 lbs.
• Push/Pull - The Childcare Counselor may frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force, occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force, and rarely push/pull over 45 lbs.
• Sitting - The Childcare Counselor may sit 50-60% of the working day.
• Standing - The Childcare Counselor may stand 10-20% of the working day.
• Walking - The Childcare Counselor may walk 10-20% of the working day.
• Stooping -The Childcare Counselor may occasionally stoop. This is defined as bending body downward by bending spine at the waist.
• Kneeling -The Childcare Counselor may occasionally kneel. This is defined as bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s).
• Crouching - The Childcare Counselor may occasionally crouch. This is defined as bending body downward and forward by bending spine and legs.
• Work environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate due to talk and movement of the program participants and other co- workers. The noise level can increase on occasion due to yelling or screaming by the participants of the programs.
  
  

Qualifications

• High School diploma

HOURS AND TIME OF WORK

• The Child Care Counselor position is full time – 40 hour per week. Schedule will vary.
