Assist Special Education Students with disabilities by implementing IEP goals, providing academic support, managing behaviors, and assisting with personal care under special education teacher supervision.
- Qualifications:
- High school diploma required, some college education preferred.
- Valid South Dakota Driver’s License.
- Previous experience working with children or youth, in a school setting, with special needs is preferred.
- Ability to effectively interact with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the client population.
- Responsible To: Education Director or Supervisor Assigned
- Principal Accountabilities:
- Assist with IEP implementation, help execute specific accommodation and modifications outlined in the IEP.
- Provide one on one or small group instruction, implement lesson plans, and help design activities appropriate for students on IEPs.
- Implement behavioral intervention plans, provide positive reinforcement and assist in crisis management or de-escalation in accordance with IEP goals.
- Accurate data collection and recording of academic and behavioral IEP goals, reporting observations to special education teacher.
- Prepare materials needed for activities and lesson planned.
- Maintain thorough and timely documentation of significant incidents.
- Assist teacher in development and implementation of lesson plans, assist with independent work, projects and lead small group and individual instruction.
- Serve as substitute for absent teachers, if necessary.
- Respond to other expectations of the Agency and/or Supervisors.
