Food Service Operator - Part-Time

Title:               Food Service Operator 180 Days. Part-time 10am-2pm 4 hours per day. 

Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the building Principal, Lunchroom Manager and Director of Food Services, to assist in maintaining an orderly and safe atmosphere in the cafeteria and in other designated locations by helping and supervising students at mealtime in accordance with Board policy and established district procedures.

Essential Functions

• Prepare and serve food items according to planned menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and serving lines in compliance with food safety regulations.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, steamers, mixers, slicers, and dish machines safely and efficiently.
• Follow portion control standards and assist with inventory rotation to minimize waste.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing deliveries; ensure proper storage of perishable and non-perishable food items.
• Collect and record daily meal counts and assist with point-of-sale system operations.
• Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and guests in a fast-paced setting.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to food safety and child nutrition.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager or designee.
• Assists in supervising students in the cafeteria during mealtime.
• Assists in making sure that tables and surrounding areas are clean.
• Assists students with orderly food purchases, distribution of food, disposal of food waste, and return of trays and utensils.
• Reports to teachers, principal, nurse and/or security personnel as appropriate regarding infractions, safety concerns, injuries, or other issues involving students.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

• Works in a standard school environment and in outdoor weather.
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time throughout the shift.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull routinely in the course of daily food service duties.
• Requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds independently, and up to 60 pounds with assistance.
• Must be able to perform repetitive hand and arm motions such as chopping, stirring, lifting, and operating kitchen tools and machinery.
• Requires visual and auditory acuity to safely operate equipment and monitor food preparation.
• May be required to work in refrigerated areas, hot kitchens, or environments where cleaning chemicals are in use.

Working Conditions

• Work environment includes exposure to hot surfaces, steam, cleaning agents, and varied temperature settings.
• Fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment.
• Schedule follows the academic calendar, with occasional extended hours for training or special events.

Qualifications Profile

• Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 pounds, and work in warm and cold environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and demonstrate professionalism in interactions with students and staff.

 
Certification/License: 

• Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License or ability to provide own transportation.

 
Experience: 

• Successful prior experience working as a lunch or food service aide, preferably in a school district or with children.
