    Position Purpose
    The 4K Paraprofessional supports the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for four-year-old children. This role assists in implementing classroom activities, guiding student behavior, and fostering social, emotional, and academic growth. The paraprofessional collaborates with teachers and school staff to ensure students receive individualized attention and support throughout the school day. Duties include helping with classroom preparation, monitoring students, assisting with meals and hygiene routines, and communicating effectively with parents and caregivers.

    Essential Job Functions
    • Provides instructional support by assisting students in reinforcing skills in reading, language arts, mathematics, computer use, and other foundational areas.
    • Works with individual students and small groups to support basic learning objectives and implement assigned instructional programs.
    • Assists certified staff with the administration, scoring, and review of classwork, tests, and assessments.
    • Supports classroom preparations by organizing and implementing strategies to reinforce instructional content based on students' developmental needs.
    • Maintains accurate records to document student progress, learning activities, and performance data.
    • Aids in classroom behavior management to reduce disruptions, support a safe and orderly environment, and help students remain focused and engaged.
    • Supervises students in non-instructional settings, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, hallways, study hall, and other areas as assigned.
    • Accompanies and supervises students during field trips and off-campus activities to ensure safety and participation.
    • Prepares, copies, distributes, and assists with the use of instructional materials and resources.
    • Supports teacher-parent communication efforts as requested to encourage positive parent engagement in their child's education.
    • Assists students with special needs in accessing and participating in classroom instruction to support inclusion and progress toward IEP goals.
    • Participates in the IEP process and serves as a support resource for student services or evaluation teams as needed.
    • Provides assistance with daily living skills for students with physical or cognitive disabilities to promote independence and full participation in school routines.
    • Follows all district safety protocols and regulations, particularly those related to supporting students with disabilities or other specific needs.

    Equipment Used

    • Playground and physical education equipment
    • Cleaning and sanitation supplies (used in accordance with health and safety guidelines)
    • Lifting and positioning equipment (when assisting students with physical disabilities, as trained)
    Travel Requirements
    • Occasional travel may be required between school sites and/or between schools and the District Office for meetings, trainings, or student support needs.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately and consistently.
    • Proficiency in basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to support student learning.
    • Ability to use personal computers and common software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace).
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs.
    • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive student and staff information.
    • Ability to build and maintain supportive, empathetic relationships with young learners, including those with special needs.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with students, teachers, and other staff members.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Capacity to adapt to changing tasks and student needs throughout the school day.
    Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
    • Work is performed in standard school and office environments.
    • Must be able to supervise and engage with students in both indoor and outdoor settings, including playground or bus duty.
    • Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed to assist students or manage classroom materials.
    • May involve occasional physical assistance with students who have mobility or physical needs.
    • Must be able to maintain focus and emotional composure in a busy early childhood classroom environment.
    Qualifications Profile
    • Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for successful job performance will be considered.
    • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
    • Successful completion of college-level coursework or a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment is preferred in accordance with state and federal requirements.
