One of our clients located in Annapolis, MD is looking for an Accounting Clerk. This is a temporary to permanent opportunity with lots of growth potential!Responsibilities:Responsible for receiving, recording, and reconciling payments for water/sewer utilities, real estate taxes, personal property taxes, and other municipal fees.Receive and process payments for utility bills, property taxes, and other municipal charges via cash, check, money order, credit/debit, and electronic methods.Verify payment amounts, validate account numbers, and issue receipts.Balance cash drawer daily and reconcile all transactions in accordance with City finance procedures.Prepare deposits and maintain accurate financial records for audit purposes.Identify and report discrepancies, errors, or suspected fraudulent activity.Provide prompt and courteous assistance to residents regarding their bills, payment options, due dates, penalties, and account status.Follow all City finance policies, internal control procedures, and audit requirements.Qualifications:High school diploma or GED.Experience handling cash and financial transactions.Experience working in municipal government, public utilities, or tax collection preferred.Knowledge of general accounting principles or payment processing procedures.Strong customer service and communication skills.Ability to perform accurate math calculations and maintain detailed records.
