Location: Port Washington, NY 11050 - Hybrid (3-4 days Onsite)

Job Description:

• As Senior Tax Manager, you'll work on new business opportunities and serve long-standing clients in both compliance and consulting roles. You'll also take part in thought leadership and technology initiatives, and you'll develop and mentor staff.
• This is a critical role in the tax practice. The partner in charge is looking for a senior manager that they will fast track to partner to lead this line of business when they are ready. This cannot be a "behind the scenes tax CPA" they need to client facing and have the personality to lead and manage a team. The soft communication and non-technical skills are just as important as technical expertise.

Responsibilities:

• Progress on a partner track toward becoming co-head of the tax department

• Help manage the tax department

• Lead the preparation and high-level review of Form 1040 returns for high-net-worth individuals and families

• Oversee gift tax returns (Form 709) and coordinate on estate and wealth-transfer planning

• Assist with estate tax returns (Form 706) and fiduciary returns (Form 1041)

• Review Form 990 filings for not-for-profit clients

• Advise closely held businesses, including S corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietorships, on compliance and planning

• Perform high-level compliance review and sign off on tax returns

• Consult with clients on planning opportunities and changes in tax law

• Develop new business: write proposals, meet prospective clients, and expand services to existing clients

• Supervise engagements and special projects, and oversee all aspects of the client relationship

• Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate staff

• Stay current on new tax issues and business trends that affect clients

• Schedule tax engagements and monitor deadlines for all tax deliverables

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; a Master's in Accounting or Taxation is preferred

• CPA required

• 10 years of public accounting tax experience; Big 4, regional, and local firm backgrounds are all welcome

• 5 years supervising and mentoring staff

• Strong experience with individual income tax, gift tax returns (Form 709), and closely held and pass-through business taxation

• Estate (Form 706) and Form 990 experience is a plus. You don't need to be an expert in everything, but you do need to be eager to learn.

• Several years of client-facing experience
