We work with experienced Revenue Cycle leaders who can apply real-world expertise to complex cases and clearly explain their opinions in a professional setting.
About the Role
We are seeking a senior Revenue Cycle Management professional to serve as an independent expert witness and consultant on a project-by-project basis.
In this role, you will review medical billing records, apply your expertise in healthcare finance, and provide opinions on the reasonableness of medical charges and billing practices. This work may include written reports, affidavits, and occasional deposition or trial testimony.
This is flexible, remote work designed for experienced professionals who want to leverage their expertise outside of a traditional full-time role.
What You’ll Do
- Review medical bills, itemized statements, and supporting documentation
- Analyze billing practices using real-world Revenue Cycle experience
- Determine the usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) value of services
- Apply knowledge of:
- Chargemaster rates
- Payer contracting
- Medicare vs. commercial reimbursement
- Cost structures in healthcare delivery
- Prepare written expert reports and summaries
- Provide opinions in affidavits, depositions, or trial (as needed)
- Collaborate with our internal team for data analysis and report preparation

Compensation
- Competitive hourly rates based on experience
- Typical range:
- Case Review / Report Writing: $100–$150 per hour
- Depositions / Testimony: higher rates with minimum billing requirements
- Paid for all expert time, including preparation and testimony
Requirements
- 15 years of experience in Revenue Cycle Management, Healthcare Finance, or related leadership roles
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- Hospital or health system revenue cycle
- Chargemaster development and pricing
- Managed care / payer contracting
- Revenue integrity or compliance
- Strong understanding of:
- Medical billing and coding practices
- Healthcare cost structures
- Differences between billed charges and reimbursement rates
- Ability to clearly explain complex topics in writing and verbally
- Comfortable providing professional opinions in a legal setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as:
- HFMA (CHFP, CRCR, etc.)
- AAPC (CPC, CPMA)
- AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS)
- Prior expert witness or consulting experience (not required)
- Experience preparing reports or presenting to non-clinical audiences
