Role Description
The Controller reports to the CFO. The position is responsible for the accurate execution of the bank’s accounting functions. The role safeguards the integrity of financial records and provides a base for the CFO’s oversight, analysis, and decision-making.
The Controller establishes the foundation that allows the CFO to step above daily execution and work with the CEO on financial strategy and growth planning. When the Controller performs with discipline and consistency, the CFO is free to execute at the highest level, reviewing results, analyzing performance, and shaping the future of the bank with executive leadership. The Controller brings a strong accounting foundation, with CPA credentials or comparable experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily reconciliations
- Process accounts payable, coding invoices and recording expenses
- Prepare/post monthly and quarterly accruals for interest, payroll, insurance, and other operating costs
- Maintain prepaid expense schedules and record systematic amortization
- Track fixed assets, record new purchases, and calculate depreciation
- Oversee payroll accounting, including posting journal entries and reconciling with payroll provider
- Prepare draft reports, including trial balances, income statements, call report schedules, and board packet schedules, FRY-6, FRY-9, PT440 forms, and ALCO packages for CFO review
- Perform bank account reconciliations
- Support audits and regulatory exams with accurate documentation
- Prepare/post journal entries, incl. amortization of deferred fees/costs, FHLB advances, prepaids, and investment activity
- Maintain vendor records for accounts payable, ensuring compliance with tax reporting (W-9s, 1099s)
- Manage the Georgia Secure Deposit Program
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, maintaining accuracy under pressure
- Ability to learn quickly and follow established procedures with consistency and integrity
- Technologically proficient; experience with Microsoft Office Suite and other common business software
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- CPA designation or comparable experience
