Summary
Seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide advanced inpatient clinical care and lead the APP team within a growing Heart & Vascular Institute. The role balances direct patient management with APP leadership, quality improvement, education, and program development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive inpatient cardiothoracic surgical care, including preoperative assessment, postoperative management, rounds, handoffs, and discharge planning.
- Evaluate and diagnose patients; develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeons.
- Lead and mentor APPs: oversee staffing, onboarding, credentialing, scheduling, performance development, and competency assessment.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care across surgery, ICU, cardiology, anesthesia, rehabilitation, and ancillary services to optimize patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, clinical education, protocol development, and department-level leadership activities.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of care.
Required Qualifications
- NP: Board-certified (ACNP or FNP preferred) OR PA: NCCPA-certified.
- Minimum 3 years of cardiothoracic surgery experience.
- Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program.
- Current BLS required; ACLS as required by the department.
- Ability to obtain and maintain active licensure in West Virginia and Virginia.
