PURCHASING COORDINATOR
This position will focus on ensuring inventory levels align with demands, improving supply chain efficiency, and optimizing service levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supply chain management, vendor negotiations, and team leadership in a manufacturing environment, as well as import /export knowledge.
Responsibilities:
- Train and develop planners and new employees for the purchasing process (requisitions, part numbers, MRP, receiving, 3-way match, etc)
- Oversee, supervise, and execute domestic and overseas purchasing
- Develop and implement inventory strategies with forecasted demand to optimize inventory levels across multiple divisions, minimizing excess stock and stockouts
- Monitor planners productivity and KPIs; including volume, value, fill rate, turns, and overstock
- Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with key suppliers and vendors both internal and external
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing/billing in a timely manner
- Work alongside internal staff (R&D, Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Accounting, Ownership) to optimize purchasing efforts, new product launches, and changes in product life cycles to maximize customer satisfaction
- Develop and present regular reports on inventory performance, inventory levels, and key performance metrics
- Foster a high-performance team environment by mentoring and developing planner buyers
- Drive continuous improvement within the planners of each facility; ensuring best practices are followed
- Lead initiatives to streamline procurement processes, improve operational efficiencies, and enhance supplier relationships
- Collaborate with Division General Managers and Ownership to develop and implement long-term strategies that support business growth and objectives
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and relevant legal requirements
- Be a model leader for communicating with impact, ensuring that all needs across sales, demand planning, replenishment purchasing, and operations are met on time and to expectation
- Deliver the budgeted metrics and objectives of departments, ensuring that all strategic decisions are in sync within each division’s plan. Metrics may include, but are not limited to:
- Conformance to category management guidelines or demand plans that ensure preferred vendor relationships and products are core to every buying decision
- Inventory balance to ordering characteristics and aged profile
- Maintain vendor relationships including service level and OTIF
- Identification and capture of opportunities for one-time improvements
- Serve as the functional expert and leader for ERP purchasing and accounting module tools (e.g. Rockwell’s Plex, or other ERPs)
- Be a thought leader capable of transitioning routinely purchased items to conform a priority purchasing model and associated stocking parameters
- As necessary, directly submit RFQ and negotiate with vendors on any required item to reach decision
Requirements:
- Import / Export knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Significant experience within the manufacturing industry.
- Deep knowledge of various supply chain principles including replenishment purchasing, freight, and warehousing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite with solid analytical skills using Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
- Strong preference for candidates with hands on MRP / ERP platforms
- Must possess managerial level planning, execution, time management, and keen communication skills with ability to craft targeted messages.
