Overview:
Aardwolf Labs has an immediate opening for a full-time Lab Director develop, implement, and manage all laboratory functions including overseeing staffing, staff needs, and staff development and identifies and oversees capital requirements, budget and operational expenses. Candidates must be available to be on-site at lab in Moss Point Mississippi
Responsibilities:
Scientific Direction
  • Support the quality direction and laboratory operation in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, and all elements of the quality management system.
  • Understand and implement all regulatory requirements, including ISO/IEC 17025 and Bureau of Cannabis Control.
  • Ensure all technical methods including relevant work instructions, equipment/instrument requirements, etc. meet the analytical needs of the laboratory.
  • Establish appropriate test protocols:
    • When available, the Laboratory Director may, with justification, choose to implement standard test methods and conduct verification studies to ensure the method is fit for intended use.
    • When necessary, develop in-house test methods and perform appropriate validation studies.
    • As necessary, establish uncertainty and expand uncertainty budgets.
  • Ensure all technical data are correctly analyzed, interpreted, and recorded.
  • Ensure all data released to customers, regulatory bodies, law enforcement or other required body, meet technical and regulatory specifications.
Strategic Direction
Working with the executive management team and/or board of directors:
  • Provide insight and review of laboratory operations.
  • May participate in capital fundraising and corporate budgeting activities.
  • Participate in strategic planning that may include evaluation of sample throughput, customer service, analytical processes, anticipated sample loads, staffing, and other elements of the laboratory process.

Instrumentation & Equipment
  • Research and recommend to executive management, laboratory equipment needed to perform necessary and anticipated workloads.
  • Upon agreement and direction by the CEO, the Laboratory Director will negotiate with potential instrument and equipment vendors.
  • The Laboratory Director assumes overall responsibility for instruments and equipment including: installation, qualification, calibration, laboratory maintenance, and service maintenance provided by the OEM.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements
    • Bachelor’s Degree in biology, chemistry, agriculture, environmental, or related science from an accredited college or university, plus 6 years of relevant full-time laboratory experience, plus 1 year demonstrated management experience; OR
    • Master’s Degree in biology, chemistry, agriculture, environmental, or related science from an accredited college or university plus 4 years of relevant full-time laboratory experience; OR
    • PhD in biology, chemistry, agriculture, environmental science from an accredited university with a minimum of 2 years in a production or quality control laboratory with demonstrated expertise in chromatography and 6 months of demonstrated management experience.
General Requirement
    • Laboratory experience should be in a production or quality laboratory (preferably ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory).
    • Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining typical (e.g., HPLC, GC, ICP, etc.) analytical instrumentation.
    • Demonstrated experience interpreting chromatograms and mass spectra.
    • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations.
    • Ability to apply advanced mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation methods, sampling theory, factor analysis, and error analysis.
    • Ability to develop, review, and make determinations on quality control data, for example control charts.
    • Ability to understand and apply method validation and method verification processes.
    • Meeting these requirements assumes technical competence and permits training laboratory personnel to technical methods specified in resume/curriculum vita.
    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
    • Proven success working with all levels of management.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong presentation skills.
    • Ability to access and prioritize competing project interests and work in a fast paced environment.

Supervisory & Training Responsibility
    • The Laboratory Director is responsible for all technical personnel including Scientists, Laboratory Technicians, and Laboratory Assistants.
    • The Laboratory Director directly oversees, and provides annual performance evaluations of Scientist III personnel, who are then responsible for direct oversight of Scientist I, II, Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants.
    • As the technical leader, the Laboratory Director mentors and supports all personnel.
    • Facilitate individual and/or group training and staff meetings, as necessary.
    • Train and authorize personnel to perform specified technical methods, as required.
    • Participates in staff hiring and internal promotion processes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Employee must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Background Check

  • There are frequent contacts and interruptions during the day.
  • The work environment will expose employee to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
  • For security purposes there are cameras located throughout the laboratory except in restrooms and change rooms.

THE COMPENSATION FOR THIS ROLE IS $108,000 to $115,100 Annually. The Aardwolf Labs pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
