AAPI New Jersey (formerly AAPI Montclair) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2021 to advocate for Asian American and Pacific Islander rights and representation and to promote awareness and education around AAPI culture and history. Through various initiatives, AAPI New Jersey seeks to create structural change, build solidarity among communities, and fight for equity for all oppressed groups, while celebrating AAPI cultures. Since its founding, AAPI New Jersey has grown from a small group of community members responding to the rise of anti-Asian hate to a nationally recognized organization supported by thousands, implementing the teaching of AAPI curriculum through its impactful program Teach Asian American Stories (TAAS) and creating a model for AAPI community mobilization. Description
AAPI New Jersey seeks motivated, detail-oriented interns to support projects within our Advocacy, Organizing, Education, Communications, Development, and Operations teams. Interns will be assigned based on their background, skills, and interests, with the possibility of contributing across multiple areas if desired.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives, gain educational, hands-on experience in nonprofit work, and help advance equity and representation for AAPI communities. The interns will assist with a range of tasks based on organizational priorities and the candidate’s skills and interests.
Responsibilities may include
- Assisting with research, data collection, and program evaluation
- Conducting outreach to schools, educators, or community partners
- Assisting with event planning, coordination, and logistics
- Helping to develop and share storytelling content with new and existing audiences
- Creating resources, toolkits, or onboarding materials for community use
- Manage or assist with administrative tasks
- Perform general assignments within assigned programmatic or operational areas (Advocacy, Organizing, Education, Development, Comms, and/or Operations)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong planning and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Familiarity with Google Workspace.
- Self-motivated and passionate about AAPI issues, education, advocacy, or nonprofit work
- Prior experience (academic, volunteer, or professional) is helpful but not required
Commitment and Compensation
- Hourly rate of $16.00 for 10-15 hours per week
- 3- and 6-month positions starting immediately with possibility to extend
- These are primarily in-person opportunities based in AAPI New Jersey’s office in Montclair, with some possibility of remote hours depending on the area supported.
