AAMA (Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans) has proudly been empowering learners and inspiring leaders for over 50 years in the areas of education, prevention and counseling and workforce readiness.

Our AAMA Medication for Opioid Use Disorder Program is seeking a  nurse to administer medication and perform other duties at our center located in Laredo, Texas. Our nurses are responsible for assisting in all areas of patient care as well as facilitating necessary tests in conjunction with State and Federal law. Assisting patients with the medical care required during treatment as directed by Medical Director. Must be able to discuss and/or counsel patients relating to their medication regiment.

Nurses provide much needed support to our medical doctors, assist with medical procedures, conduct follow-ups with the clients concerning lab work, test results, and triage clients as needed.  Nurses also perform phlebotomy work, injections, manage client records, act as a liaison between clients, hospital, other providers and the medical doctors.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties that are assigned:

 

We are looking for a nurse who is able to work Mon- Fri 6:45am to 3:45pm and work Saturdays on a rotating basis 6:45 to 12:45 including some holiday weekends. 

  • Administer medications to patients and ensure safety compliance
  • Count and maintain medication inventory
  • Assess patients at the dosing window 
  • Conduct urine drug screens
  • Maintain all paperwork required for regulatory agencies
  • Conduct bottle recalls on patients with take-home medication
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to provide support to patients

Job Duties: (include but are not limited to):

  • Supply and administer medication
  • Record dosages in medical records
  • Daily inventory count of medication supply and receiving incoming shipments
  • Responsible for safeguarding medication inventory
  • Observe / monitor patient demeanor
  • Communicate patient concerns to superior
  • Comply with federal and state privacy rules, including 42 CFR Parts 160, 164 as well as applicable clinic policies and procedures
  • Contact other centers to verify dosages as needed
  • Administer appropriate lab tests, collect data and report per process
  • Schedule and screen patient to be seen by Medical Director
  • Receive and document medical orders
  • Always act in the best interest of patient, program and company
  • Honor, support and protect the proprietary right of patients and company
  • Interface with public and patients by answering phones, greeting visitors, and monitoring patient activities while on center premises

Qualifications include:

  • Flexible schedule required and willingness to work early morning hours, as work hours begins at 6:45 AM.
  • Requires a licensed nurse (LVN) registered in the state of Texas and graduated from an accredited school of nursing
  • At least one-year experience as a LVN
  • Experience in the field of addictions is preferred but not necessary.
  • A positive attitude and passion for those in recovery from addiction.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team.
  • No legal impediments to serving in a licensed opiate treatment program.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
