About The Role
The mechanical insulator is involved in the successful daily completion of assigned work either on a priority basis or continuing basis as assigned by the Plant Engineer, and periodically by the Facilities Lead on an as-needed basis. There are no formal reports for this position with the exception of work documentation as required to document material and equipment requests as pertinent to the job.
Responsibilities
Support full department compliance with safety rules to further our goal of 0 accidents and encouragement of reporting near misses.
Support accident prevention during major construction or anytime maintenance contractors are on site.
Identify high-risk safety/ productivity issues and help remedy them.
Required
Adhere to SOPs and other work procedures as required.
Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with covers, cladding, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or mastic.
Determine the amounts and types of insulation needed, and methods of installation, based on factors such as location, surface shape, and equipment use.
Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws in order to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
Read blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
Select appropriate insulation such as fiberglass, mineral wool, foam glass, etc. based on the heat retaining or excluding characteristics of the material.
Install steam tracing to piping systems
Minor mechanical repairs.
Operate a forklift, man lift and a boom lift.
Support goal of minimum part sparing consistent with production goals and local vendor services.
About You
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Strong problem solving and math skills
Strong equipment troubleshooting skills
Excellent communication (verbal and written), time management and organizational skills
3 - 5 years in related experience in oil, chemical, pharmaceutical or process manufacturing facility
