Data Scientist

Our client is a sports analytics company that specializes in leveraging advanced data engineering and analytics to transform raw sports data into actionable insights. They work across college and professional sports to empower organizations to make data-driven decisions that optimize performance and drive business growth.

They are looking for a Data Scientist to join their growing analytics department. This position offers an exciting opportunity to leverage data science to build analytical models that can help provide actionable insights, support decision-making, and enhance team and player performance within the sports landscape. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports analytics and a strong foundation in statistical analysis and predictive modeling.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy predictive models utilizing insights from football knowledge
• Analyze football datasets to identify statistically significant patterns and extract predictive features
• Research new methods to develop and improve sophisticated predictive models, staying up to date with the latest research and techniques in the field
• Collaborate with a team of data scientists and engineers

Example Projects

• Identify prospective collegiate athletes in the transfer portal
• Optimize in-game decision-making
• Determine optimal playcalling strategy considering a team s personnel
• Evaluate coaching and playcalling

Qualifications

• Bachelor s degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Econometrics or related field; PhD or Masters preferred, but not required
• Proficiency in Python (preferred) or R
• 3 years of professional experience
• Skilled in a variety of statistical modeling and machine learning techniques
• Experience building models in a cloud-based ecosystem preferred, but not required
• Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical audiences
• Strong self-motivation and curiosity to challenge traditional football beliefs
• (Preferred) Experience and Desire working in sports analytics

Our client is based in the Washington, DC area. They ideally want someone in the DC area, but are open to fully remote as long as you can come to DC occasionally.
